Man dies after fire crews pull him from lake near Foster Beach

A 49-year-old man died Sunday morning after he was pulled from Lake Michigan near Foster Beach.
About 8:30 a.m., the man was swimming about 25 feet from the shore near the 5200 block of Simonds Drive when he went under the water, police said.
Witnesses called 911. He was unreponsive when he was pulled out of the water by Chicago Fire Department crews, police said.
He was taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:03 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
His name was withheld Sunday morning pending notification of family.
