16-year-old boy killed, 3 injured in Sauk Village shooting


A 16-year-old boy was killed and three people were wounded Thursday afternoon in a shooting in south suburban Sauk Village.

About 1:45 p.m., police responded to a call that a person had been shot in the 1700 block of Sauk Trail, according to a statement from Sauk Village police.

Nathaniel Burns Jr., of Sauk Village, was taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Dyer, Ind., where he was pronounced dead at 2:52 p.m., according to a statement from the Lake County coroner’s office. The coroner’s office ruled his death a homicide.

Of the three people who were wounded, two were treated and released and the third was in good condition, police said.

The Sauk Village Police Department Detective Division and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force was investigating the shooting.
