A man from south suburban Riverdale was held without bail Sunday after prosecutors accused him of trying to gun down a witness to a murder — one in which the Riverdale man is a suspect.
Rodger Bell, 20, asked his alleged victim for a cigarette June 21 at 140th Court and Tracy in Riverdale, according to Assistant State’s Attorney Jeannine Rossow. The victim said he didn’t have one and began to walk away, the prosecutor said.
That’s when Bell allegedly fired seven bullets, emptying his gun and striking the victim in the left chest, abdomen, both arms, left flank and left ankle, Rossow said. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, underwent surgery and survived.
Now, Bell has been charged with attempted murder, Rossow said.
The victim and another witness identified Bell, of the 14500 block of South Wallace in Riverdale, as the gunman in the June 21 shooting, Rossow said.
His alleged victim is a witness in a Riverdale murder that is still under investigation, she said. Bell is a suspect in that case, Rossow said.
