The first two shootings didn’t kill them.

But the third one did.

Two recent Chicago murder victims survived earlier gunshot wounds before they were killed, police confirmed Thursday.

Bruce Wright, a parolee, was killed Tuesday on the Northwest Side, and Brian Weekly died last month on the South Side.

Wright, 23, was killed while riding a bicycle in the 900 block of North Hamlin in Humboldt Park. A van pulled up and someone opened fire, police said.

Wright, who was shot in the head, was previously wounded in the left forearm just six days earlier — on July 2. He told police he heard shots and felt pain in his arm.

On Sept. 2, he was shot in his left wrist during a drive-by shooting, police said.

Wright, a felon, pleaded guilty to burglary and drug charges in 2010 and pleaded guilty to a second drug case in 2012.

In that case, he was placed on probation, which he repeatedly violated. On Jan. 10, he was sentenced to a year in prison but was given credit for 227 days served in jail while he awaited trial. On Jan. 13, he was placed on a year of parole, records show.

Weekly, 18, was shot at 1:30 a.m. on June 7 in an alley in the 5600 block of South Wabash. He also was wounded twice in shootings in May.

On May 25, a gunman shot him in the upper right thigh and escaped on foot. Weekly refused to cooperate with officers about that incident, police said.

Only two days later, on May 27, Weekly got into a quarrel with someone who drove up in a car. Weekly was shot in the upper right arm and chest, police said.

Weekly didn’t appear to have an adult criminal record.

Police pointed to the two killings as examples of the difficulties in stopping violence in Chicago. Victims refuse to help detectives — and often wind up dead.

The Second City Cop blog first reported that Wright and Weekly were previously shot before their murders.
