Updated: June 16, 2014 6:01PM

An outbound Metra Electric District train was canceled Sunday night after a juvenile jumped on a train in south suburban University Park, was electrocuted and died, according to a Metra spokesman.

About 7 p.m., a “couple of juveniles” went into a rail yard, and one of them was electrocuted after jumping on top of a parked electric train, said Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.

Train No. 815, scheduled to arrive in University Park at 7:39 p.m., was stopped in Matteson for nearly two hours before service was canceled, according to Metra.

Neither the University Park police nor fire department could provide details on the incident Sunday night.
