Homer Township School District 33C officials and Will County sheriff’s police are investigating reports of sexting among sixth-grade students at Hadley Middle School in Homer Glen, according to the district.
The investigation, which started Monday, involves multiple reports of sexting — using mobile phones to send sexually explicit photos or text messages — among sixth graders, according to a statement sent to parents by Principal Kristen Schroeder and Assistant Principal Candis Gasa. The statement also was posted to the school’s website on Thursday.
“We are taking this matter very seriously and treating it as a learning opportunity for our students,” the statement says.
School social workers and counselors will provide an informational session Friday to teach students about “the dangers and implications of inappropriate use of technology, including the ramifications of sexting, bullying and the misuse of social media,” according to the statement.
