A man and woman were killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Southwest Side late Saturday.
Just after 11:30 p.m., the two, both believed to be in their 20s, were in a sport utility vehicle travelling north on California Avenue near West 37th Street when the driver lost control and hit a utility pole, police said. They were dead at the scene.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office had been notified of the deaths, but authorities weren’t releasing the identities of the two early Sunday, a spokesman said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash and it was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs were a factor, police said. The police department’s Major Accident Investigations Unit is investigating.
