A man was struck by a train and killed Christmas night in northwest suburban Wheeling.
The northbound Canadian National freight train was heading from Chicago to north suburban Antioch when it struck a pedestrian about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday near Willow Road, railroad spokesman Patrick Waldron said. The train conductor was not injured.
The man was trespassing and was not at a grade crossing, Waldron said.
The 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:55 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. His name was withheld Thursday afternoon pending notification of his family.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
