Bitter cold will grip Chicago area through Tuesday night

Sub-zero wind chills are expected in the Chicago area through Tuesday night, then temperatures are likely to climb out of the single digits, making way for up to an an inch of snow on Christmas Day.
Tuesday’s high temperature is expected to reach 17 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Wind chills are expected to drop as low as 12 below zero.
Forecasts call for a 90 percent chance of precipitation on Wednesday, with up to one inch falling shortly after midnight. The temperature could reach 20 degrees by 4 a.m., according to the weather service.
Wednesday night’s low is expected to be about 17 degrees. Later in the week, the high and low temperatures are expected to stay below freezing but above zero, according to the weather service.
