A 30-year-old man on parole was shot and killed Saturday evening near his home in Evanston.
The man was identified as Floyd Gibert of the 2000 block of Ashland Avenue in northern suburb, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
He was shot about 6:20 p.m. just a few blocks from his home — in 2000 block of Darrow Avenue, according to an Evanston Police department news release. Shortly after the shooting, while someone was driving the man to the hospital, the vehicle was involved in a crash at Green Bay Road and McCormick Boulevard, police said.
Gibert was pronounced dead at Evanston Hospital at 7:30 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy performed Sunday concluded his death was a homicide.
Evanston police are investigating.
