Brighton Park man charged in Lincoln Park murder denied bond

November 13, 2009

A man charged in the murder of a Burr Ridge man after a Sunday morning argument at a Lincoln Park jazz club was denied bond Friday as detectives continued to talk to a second man, named as a person of interest in the murder.

Jose Melecio, 30, of 4613 S. Sawyer Ave., is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Carlos Aguirre, according to police.

Melecio was denied bond Friday, according to Cook County State¹s Attorney¹s office spokesman Andy Conklin. He will appear for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 1.

Aguirre, 29, of the 9000 block of Palisade in Burr Ridge, was shot multiple times in the abdomen and arm at 4:35 a.m. in the 1500 block of West Webster Avenue, according to police.

Melecio and Aguirre were both at the Green Dolphin, a jazz club at 2200 N. Ashland Ave., when the two began to argue, according to court records.

Melecio punched Aguirre once in the face and later in the night, approached him in the club while he was talking to two other people.

Another argument began, prompting Melecio to be thrown out of the club. Aguirre and his girlfriend, however, stayed until closing time, court records indicated.

Aguirre and his girlfriend got into a car, with Aguirre as the passenger, when a car pulled up, two people grabbed him and pulled him out of the car, beating, kicking and hitting him. Melecio then pulled out a gun and shot Aguirre three times, killing him, according to court records.

Aguirre was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. A Monday autopsy found Aguirre died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.

Police were talking to a second suspect, who may have helped Melecio beat Aguirre prior to his death. He has been named as a person of interest in the case, although no charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
