Michigan man arrested after calling 911 for a ride home

November 11, 2009

An allegedly inebriated Benton Harbor, Mich., man reportedly called 911 to say he was kidnapped and robbed, then told responding officers he just wanted a ride home early Wednesday in the North Side’s Andersonville neighborhood, police said.

Jorge Murillo, 39, of the 1150 block of North Golf Road in Benton Harbor, was charged with disorderly conduct/making a false public service agency report, according to police, who said the charge is a misdemeanor.

Murillo called from the 1700 block of West Foster Avenue about 2:30 a.m. and told dispatchers he had been robbed and kidnapped, according to police.

Responding officers found Murillo appeared to be intoxicated, and he told them he actually wasn't robbed or kidnapped, police said. He was arrested at 2:40 a.m.

“He really only called because he wanted a ride home,” a Lincoln District police sergeant said.
