Off-duty officers fires shots in Bridgeport; nobody struck
An off-duty Chicago Police officer working as a security guard fired shots at a man with a gun early Wednesday in the South Sides Bridgeport neighborhood.
The off-duty officer was working as a security guard in the 3800 block of South Sangamon Avenue when a light-colored van approached about 2:15 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Three men inside the van confronted the officer and one of them produced a handgun. In fear of his life, the officer fired several shots, but nobody was struck, Alfaro said. The officer was also uninjured.
All three men fled the scene in the van and nobody is in custody early Wednesday, police said.
The Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates all police-involved shootings, and Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
