CPS student fatally shot in Lawndale, two others injured

November 9, 2009

A 16-year-old Chicago Public Schools student was killed in a shooting that also injured two men late Sunday in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood.

Sheerrell Williams was killed in the shooting which happened about 11:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Christiana Avenue, police said. v Williamson, of the 3700 block of South Indiana Avenue, was dead on the scene on the 1500 block of South Christiana Avenue, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Williamson was a 10th grader at Phillips Academy High School, according to Monique Bond, spokeswoman for the Chicago Public Schools. The school is located at 244 E. Pershing Rd.

All three male victims were inside a parked vehicle when a "dark-colored vehicle" approached and someone inside fired shots, according to police News Affairs Hector Alfaro. The teen who died suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was found unresponsive on the scene by police, Alfaro said.

The two survivors were a man in his 20s who suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of his body and who was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition and an 18-year-old man who was shot in the back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Alfaro said.

After he was shot, the 18-year-old ran to the 1500 block of South Kedzie Avenue where police found him, according to the officer.

Police issued a flier Monday asking for the public's help in gaining information into the shooting. No one was in custody at 11 a.m. and anyone with information is asked to call Harrison Area detectives at (312) 746-8252.
