Man fatally stabbed, allegedly by girlfriend

November 8, 2009

A 41-year-old man was fatally stabbed by his girlfriend Sunday morning in a domestic incident in his South Lawndale neighborhood home.

The man, identified as Andre Brooks, 41, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, was allegedly stabbed in the chest by his girlfriend, also 41, at 12:46 a.m. in the 1900 block of South Trumbull Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines.

The couple had been engaged in a verbal altercation, Gaines said.

Brooks, of the 1900 block of South Trumbull Avenue, where the stabbing occurred, was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 1:51 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office. The woman was taken into police custody, Gaines said.

No charges had been filed as of Sunday morning.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
