Judge sentences Degorski to life
James Degorski, the second person convicted of killing seven people at a Brown's Chicken restaurant in northwest suburban Palatine 16 years ago, has been sentenced to life in prison.
Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan sentenced Degorski to life in prison on Wednesday, according to the Sullivan Law Firm.
Last month, a Cook County jury took Degorski’s attorney's advice and showed the convicted killer “mercy” by refusing to impose the death penalty and recommending life in prison without parole for the mass murders in Palatine.
Degorski was found guilty of the murders in late September.
He has until Dec. 2 to file any post-conviction motions, the release said.
His defense attorney last month had argued three motions for mistrial, but Gaughan denied all three.
