Brother thwarts man’s attempt to lure, kidnap girl in park: police
A man who tried to kidnap a little girl by promising her candy in a Northwest Side park was thwarted by the girl’s brother late last week, police said.
Anthony Correa, 44, of the 4800 block of North Kruger Avenue, was charged with attempted kidnapping, according to Albany Park District police.
The incident happened Thursday about 6 p.m. at a playlot or park on the 4500 block of West Carmen Avenue, when Correa allegedly approached the 9-year-old girl and said, “Come with me and I will buy you some candy,’’ and then dragged her by the arm and pants, according to a police report.
The girl’s 12-year-old brother came to her aid and helped her get away, according to the report.
The siblings went back home and told their parents and their father went back to the park, saw the man still there and chased him down. A brief struggle ensued and Correa got away. Correa was arrested Friday at 10:45 a.m.
Court information was not available immediately.
Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
