Gang-related attack in Englewood leaves man dead
Police are seeking an assailant who emerged from a gangway and fatally shot a man walking near his home in the South Side Englewood neighborhood Sunday night.
About 9:10 p.m. police responded to shots fired on the 6800 block of South Aberdeen Street and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
Darren Johnson, 29, of the 6800 block of South Aberdeen Street suffered multiple gunshot wounds at the Aberdeen Street address and was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
According to police, Johnson was walking on the street with another man when the shooter emerged from a gangway and fired shots, striking only Johnson.
The shooting is possibly gang-related, according to Greer who said the victim was initially taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
No one is in custody at 3 a.m.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
