Man shot by group who wanted him out of their 'area'

October 31, 2009

A 22-year-old man was shot in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood Friday night by some people who obviously didn't want him there.

About 9:30 p.m., the man was standing on the street on the 1300 block of East 62nd Street, at South Kenwood Avenue, when multiple people walked up to him, stated that "this is our area," and shot him, police said.

The man was wounded in the thigh and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, according to police.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
