17-year-old fatally shot in attempted robbery on Far South Side
A teen was fatally shot in the head on the Far South Side in the Washington Heights neighborhood Saturday night in what apparently was an attempted armed robbery, authorities said.
About 9:15 p.m., the victim, Dequarius Cannon, 17, and another person were sitting in a car at 105th and Peoria streets when someone approached on foot and demanded valuables from them, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.
Cannon, who was in the driver's seat, was shot in the left temple, Kubiak said.
The other person in the car then grabbed the wheel and sped away, driving a few blocks away to the 10700 block of South Green Street, where Cannon lived, and called for an ambulance, Kubiak said.
Cannon, of the 10700 block of South Green Street, was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. The shooting happened on the 10500 block of South Peoria Street, according to the medical examiner's office.
