Woman fatally stabs boyfriend over alcohol: prosecutors

August 7, 2008

Prosecutors claimed Thursday that an argument over alcohol left a 77-year-old man dead Tuesday at the hands of his girlfriend.

Cook County Circuit Judge Israel Desierto set bond for Regina Williams at $500,000, according to Tandra Simonton, Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman.

Williams, 55, of the 1000 block of North Waller Avenue, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor.

Prosecutors say Willie Anderson and Williams were dating. She was with Anderson in his vehicle in the 2200 block of West Monroe Street when they got into an argument about alcohol. Williams then allegedly stabbed Anderson in the face, neck and chest.

Police received a call about 6 p.m. Tuesday for a stabbing in the 2200 block of West Monroe Street, Taylor said.

After stabbing him, Williams allegedly yelled for someone to come and get Anderson because she had just killed him, according to court records. She then sat in the vehicle and drank a beer.

Prosecutors say there are two witnesses to the murder. One witness claims to have seen and heard the argument and stabbing but didn’t see the weapon. Another witness allegedly walked past the vehicle and saw a bloody knife on the floor near Williams’ feet.

Anderson, of the 2200 block of West Monroe Street, died at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, a Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokesman said.

An autopsy Wednesday confirmed he died from multiple stab wounds, according to the medical examiner's office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Williams allegedly gave detectives a videotaped statement admitting to killing Anderson.

In 2007, Williams was convicted of a felony aggravated battery charge after she spat at a paramedic who was treating her, Simonton said. She was sentenced to 24 months probation but was taken into custody after violating her probation in February 2008.

Because of the stabbing, prosecutors also filed a violation of probation petition Thursday, Simonton said.

Williams is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 26.
