A 47-year-old woman was shot and seriously wounded when she struggled with an armed man who broke into her home Wednesday night in the Austin neighborhood.
The woman was at her home in the 5000 block of West Van Buren Street about 6:15 p.m. when a masked man with a gun confronted her in her room, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The man, who was wearing a hoodie, struggled with the woman, who was shot during the confrontation, Greer said.
The suspect ran away and the woman chased after him, Greer said. She also saw a second suspect in her home, who also ran out the front door.
The woman was shot in the abdomen and leg and taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.
