A Chicago police officer was bitten by a dog early Saturday while police were making arrest in an armed robbery in Albany Park.

Three men in a sport-utility vehicle had approached a woman in the 4500 block of North Christiana Avenue around 3:45 a.m. and robbed her at gunpoint, police Officer John Mirabelli said.

She suffered a graze wound to the neck and was hospitalized at Swedish Covenant Hospital, Mirabelli said.

Albany Park District and canine unit officers spotted an SUV in the 5300 block of North Kimball Avenue that matched the description of the vehicle involved in the robbery, Mirabelli said.

Two of the suspects in the vehicle were arrested, he said, and a third ran and was later taken into custody in the 5400 block of North Spaulding Avenue.

Before the arrest, the suspect fired at police with a handgun, and officers returned fire, according to Mirabelli, who said the suspect was shot in the arm and taken in “stable” condition to Swedish Covenant Hospital.

A canine unit officer was bitten by another officers police dog and taken to Swedish Covenant for treatment, Mirabelli said.
