Score big with pizzas on Super Bowl Sunday
BY SANDY THORN CLARK
There's plenty of time to prepare a pizza-perfect Super Bowl party -- as requested by O.W. of Bedford Park -- thanks to the culinary staff at Tabasco who's sharing easy-to-assemble and budget-wise recipes for Tuscan White Pizza, topped with sweet onions, kalamata olives and fresh rosemary, and BLT French Bread Pizza, topped with a Tabasco-mayonnaise spread, bacon, leeks or scallions and tomatoes.
And for dessert- Pizza, of course.
To make a popular version of Fruit Pizza to serve 10: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Press 1 (18-ounce) package of refrigerated sugar cookie dough evenly into a 12-inch pizza pan. Bake in preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Spread 1 (8-ounce) container of frozen whipped topping over the cooled crust. Spread a combination of fresh fruit -- 1/2 cup sliced bananas or kiwi, 1/2 cup sliced fresh strawberries, 1/2 cup pineapple and 1/2 cup seedless grapes (halved) -- in a decorative pattern. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Or try an Apple-Pineapple Dessert Pizza to serve 8: Press 1 (10-ounce) can of refrigerated pizza crust into a lightly greased 11-by-7-inch baking dish. Bake at 425 degrees for 7 minutes; cool. Drain 1 (15 1/4-ounce) can crushed pineapple, reserving 1/3 cup juice. Combine pineapple and 1 (20-ounce) can apple pie filling.
Stir together reserved pineapple juice, 1 teaspoon cornstarch, 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg; add to pineapple mixture. Spoon evenly over crust; sprinkle with 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese.
Combine 2/3 cup all-purpose flour and 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar; cut in 1/40 cup butter with pastry blender until crumbly. Sprinkle over cheese. Top with 1/3 cup finely chopped dried apricots. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden.
Add beverages, and all that will be missing from your Super Bowl fun will be our Bears.

Over the holidays I had Hawaiian meatballs -- they were sweet and sour with pineapple in the sauce. I would love a recipe.

I'm interested in a recipe for hamburger soup. The one I ate as a kid contained lots of vegetables.
