Beachgoers warned to stay out of water
SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE August 13, 2013 11:08AM
The National Weather Service is advising Lake Michigan beachgoers in Cook County and Northwestern Indiana to stay out of the water Tuesday because of dangerous swimming conditions, including strong rip currents and waves up to seven feet high.
The beach hazard statement issued by the weather service Tuesday morning states that strong rip currents could quickly pull swimmers away from shore. Waves between 4 and 7 feet are expected.
The advisory remains in effect until late Tuesday night.
North winds between 15 and 25 mph are expected Tuesday, but those should diminish to 10 to 15 mph by Wednesday, according to the weather service.
