Updated: July 7, 2013 2:46PM

A U.S. Postal Service driver was charged with misdemeanor DUI after crashing his truck on the Near West Side late Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Thomas Hackney, whose address wasn’t immediately available, crashed his 2001 mail truck in the 300 block of North Ashland about 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to police and the postal service.

Hackney is still employed with the postal service, but the agency is conducting its own investigation into the crash, said Chicago USPS spokesman Mark Reynolds.

“His [job] status will be determined after the investigation,” Reynolds said.
