A woman was killed when her car collided with a Chicago Police car pursuing a suspect Wednesday morning on the South Side.
The officers responded shortly before 10:20 a.m. to a call of a home invasion with a firearm in the 7800 block of South Ellis, police said.
The officers spotted a suspect on their way to the home, police said. The police vehicle collided with the woman’s car in the 2400 block of East 76th Street — about two miles from the armed home invasion.
Two police officers and the woman driving the other car were initially taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.
The woman, who was in her 50s, was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office was not releasing her identity.
After the initial collision, the woman’s car struck a third vehicle, police said. A man in the third vehicle was hospitalized, and a woman in his car fled from the scene.
Police News Affairs declined to comment on whether anybody is in custody.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit and Area South detectives are investigating.
