Shouts of “Viva Mexico” echoed across Douglas Park on Sunday as hundreds of Chicagoans joined in celebration of Cinco de Mayo.

Soccer, dancing and live music highlighted the event that honors Mexico’s 1862 victory over the French army.

“This is my first year here. We brought the whole family and have really enjoyed it so far,” said Alex Andrade, 32, of Lake View.

On the outskirts of the soccer fields, three men rode horses as children danced to a six-piece band.

“The rides, the food, the music. This has just been a really great event,” said Brandy Lopez, 30, of Justice.
