A south suburban man was charged with murder Thursday in the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old Hammond girl at a Calumet City home.
Eric Anthony Brown, 20, of Calumet City, was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, Calumet City Police said Thursday.
Brown is accused of firing into a home Sunday night in the 500 block of Ingraham in Calumet City, killing Ashaya Miller and wounding a 19-year-old man.
Ashaya and the man were in the kitchen when someone in the gangway fired shots through a window about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Calumet City Police Chief Edward Gilmore said.
Ashaya was shot twice in the back and died, Gilmore said. The man who was with her in the kitchen was treated for a gunshot wound in his elbow.
Police said Thursday they don’t think Ashaya was the intended target.
Brown was expected to appear at a bond hearing Friday morning in Markham.
