State Police say alcohol and speed were factors in an early Sunday crash that left a motorist dead on the Stevenson Expressway on the city’s Southwest Side.
About 12:50 a.m., the driver of the 2000 Chevrolet SUV hit the crash barrels in the median area of the southbound expressway and the ramp to Kedzie Avenue, Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Jason LoCoco said.
Alejandro Gonzalez Luna, 37, of the 2200 block of South Kirkland Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he died at 1:40 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
No one else was in the car. Authorities believe both speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, LoCoco said.
State Police continue to investigate early Sunday.
