Tuesday’s snowstorm may not have resulted in serious accidents, but the continuing snowfall did lead to numerous cancellations in the area.

The Joliet City Council called off its regular meeting Tuesday night. Business on the agenda will be taken up at the March 19 council meeting instead.

Meanwhile, the snow also played havoc with area school and sports schedules.

The sectional game featuring Joliet West vs. Marian at Thornton was scheduled for Tuesday night but was re-scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

At Bolingbrook, Oswego vs. West Aurora was moved to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Benet vs. Neuqua Valley moved to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. At Rich South, Rich East vs. Coal City was moved to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, while Providence vs. Hillcrest will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Plainfield School District 202 closed all schools and facilities due to the weather.

Tuesday morning, Joliet police and state police reported no major issues with the snow.

Joliet Commander Brian Benton said police had not gone to their emergency traffic weather response status. When the status is in effect, vehicles can be moved when there is a crash in which no one is injured. Motorists can report the crash later.

Typically during a weather emergency, Joliet police establish a mobile command post to handle crash reports at Caton Farm and Essington roads, as well as the police station.
