A winter storm that moved through the Midwest on its way to dumping more than a foot of snow in some parts of the Northeast has led to flight delays at Chicago’s airports for flights to and from the East Coast.

As of Thursday morning, flights destined to Newark International Airport from both O’Hare and Midway were experiencing delays averaging 1 hour and 25 minutes because of wind conditions, according to the FAA.

Wind was also leading to delays averaging 1 hour and 15 minutes for flights bound for LaGuardia Airport in New York, according to the FAA. Flights from LaGuardia were also expected to be delayed.

Snow and ice conditions were also resulting in a hold on departures from both O’Hare and Midway for Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport in Montreal until at least 2:15 p.m., according to the FAA. Anywhere from 7 to 16 inches of snow, with strong winds, was expected around Montreal from the storm.

According to the National Weather Service, some spots in the northeast have already received more than a foot of snow, and an additional 4-8 inches is possible Thursday, with some locally heavier amounts.

As of Thursday morning, 11 inches of snow had fallen in Buffalo, N.Y.; 6.5 inches in Ann Arbor, Mich.; 7 inches in Indianapolis; 10.5 inches in Evansville, Ind.; and snow was falling across northern New York into northern New England. Winter storm warnings continue over parts of Pennsylvania, northwest New Jersey, New York, and New England.
