Geneva teachers file unfair labor practice

GENEVA — The Geneva Education Association Saturday charged the School Board here with an unfair labor charge of trying to coerce and intimidate the teachers.
The union representing the Geneva teachers and the School Board have been in tense, long negotiations this week, trying to avoid a strike the association has called for Monday.
At last report, both sides are still set to negotiate Sunday.
Carol Young, the Geneva teachers’ union president, released a statement Saturday saying the School board sent letters to teachers saying staff members would be responsible for their full health and dental insurance premiums for every day of a work stoppage.
She said the letter also addressed other items that “remain undecided because they are part of a continuing negotiations process.”
“We remain committed to getting this dispute settled fairly,” said Young. “But we won’t stand idly by as the school board behaves in an intimidating manner toward our members.”
School Board president Mark Grosso did not return a phone call to his home.
