Lance Tyson, a municipal bond lawyer who served as chief of staff to former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger, threw his hat in the ring Sunday to replace state Rep. Derrick Smith, who has been charged with taking a bribe.
Tyson, 40, claims support from Cook County Commissioners John Daley, Robert Steele and John Fritchey as well as City Clerk Susana Mendoza.
Smith has so far has resisted pleas from Democratic ward committeemen to give up his seat in the legislature and his ballot position.
That means Tyson may have to form a third party to run.
