Updated: April 10, 2012 11:11AM

A correctional officer was killed and three others injured when a black SUV plowed into the group Tuesday night in northwest Indiana, officials said.

The Lake County correctional officers had just completed their shift and were jogging around 7 p.m. when they were hit by the SUV on 93rd Avenue north of the Lake County Government Complex in Crown Point, officials said.

The vehicle fled, and police throughout the county were searching for the driver, Lake County Sheriff John Buncich said.

“It’s terrible, just terrible,” Buncich said.

One of the officers, a woman, died at the scene. “There’s a lot of evidence at the scene,” Buncich said.
