A Will County judge shot down a bid from a Frankfort teen with connections in the music industry to go to the Grammy Awards on Sunday, more than two months after he pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
Prosecutors said 19-year-old Raihan Sayeed blew through a stop sign at Townline and Francis roads in Mokena on May 9, 2009, injuring Gerald and Mary Beth Ryan when he hit their 2002 Ford.
He originally faced two felony counts of aggravated reckless driving, but court records show those charges were dropped in November. That’s when he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and was sentenced to two years of probation.
That means he can’t travel out of Illinois without Judge Sarah Jones’ permission. On Monday, she told him he could travel if necessary for medical school interviews, but she said he can’t attend the star-studded Grammy music awards show Sunday night in Los Angeles.
Sayeed has already been in trouble for traveling out-of-state for a celebrity party. Prosecutors successfully sought a bail increase in November 2010 after they found several photos on Facebook of Sayeed with various celebrities at a Miami homecoming party for rapper Lil Wayne, who had just been released from prison.
They said Sayeed is affiliated with Lil Wayne’s music production company, Young Money/Cash Money Records.
