A man pulled from Lake Michigan in the North Side Edgewater neighborhood Sunday morning was pronounced dead after he was taken to a nearby hospital.
Police and fire personnel responded to Lake Michigan at Bryn Mawr about 10:30 a.m. for a man reported to be in the water.
A woman had called 911 to report that a male was trapped in the breakwater there, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
Personnel from the Chicago Fire Department, the Chicago Police Department Marine Unit and Lincoln District police officers responded.
Shortly after 11 a.m. Fire Media said a male was taken out of the water by fire department divers and taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said the office had been notified of the man’s death, but they had no additional information immediately available.
According to unconfirmed dispatch reports the man, who was found face down in the water, was unidentified as of Sunday afternoon but believed to be in his 50s.
