A teen from the North Austin neighborhood has been charged with robbery for what prosecutors said was his role in a West Side mugging in January.
Bernard Robinson, 16, of the 1400 block of North Monitor, was charged as an adult and ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail Sunday by Cook County Judge Israel Desierto.
Police said Robinson — also known as “Lil Shootah” — admitted to officers in his mother’s presence that he helped rob a man on Jan. 15 who was lured to an alley in the 1300 block of North Menard with the promise of sex.
When he got there, police said, Robinson and another male approached the victim. The other male threatened the victim with a semi-automatic pistol, according to court records, and the pair demanded his wallet, which contained $60, and his Pelle Pelle leather jacket.
The victim refused to hand them over, police said, and he was pistol-whipped by the other robber. Police said Robinson then knocked the victim to the ground and hit him before the victim surrendered his money and jacket.
Police said Robinson and the other male ran from the scene
