Two men were sentenced to prison Friday after pleading guilty to beating an elderly man inside his South Side Woodlawn neighborhood apartment building.
Freddie Hopson and David Chambers pleaded guilty to one count each of robbery of a handicapped person or victim over 60, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.
Judge Neera Walsh sentenced Hopson to eight years in prison and Chambers to seven, Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman Lisa Gordon said.
On April 30, 2012, Hopson, 45, and Chambers, 50, approached the then-86-year-old man inside the lobby of a building in the 600 block of East 69th Street, where they beat and robbed him, police said.
Chambers turned himself in to police in June 2012 after seeing himself on TV after police released surveillance footage of the attack, police said. The Fugitive Apprehension/Great Lakes Regional Task Force arrested Hopson.
