A suspended federal jail guard could soon be back at his former workplace — as an inmate.

Tony Henderson, 51, of Portage, Ind., was indicted Wednesday on charges that he accepted bribes on five occasions in July and August last year to allow contraband into the the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Chicago.

Henderson worked as a guard at the MCC from 1996 until he was placed on administrative leave in September.

Federal prosecutors haven’t identified what the alleged contraband was, but they say the charges were unrelated to the Dec. 18, 2012, escape of two MCC inmates, both of whom were later captured.

Each count of bribery carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or a fine of up to three times the value of the bribe. Henderson remained free on bond and a date for his arraignment has not been scheduled.
