The Pritzker card . . .
Is this a sign Hyatt hotel heiress/Obama fund-raiser Penny Pritzker will soon join President Obama’s Cabinet?
◆ To wit: President Barack Obama’s executive order creating his Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, which he created in January 2011, just ended Thursday.
◆ To wit II: Pritzker, who is also a close Obama pal, has been on the jobs council since its creation.
◆ Translation: Is this subtraction from her Obama duties a prelude to her joining his Cabinet as commerce secretary or becoming Obama’s first secretary of business — a post he stated he wanted to create back in October?
Stay tuned.
Bedbug update . . .
Whew! The bedbug-sniffing dogs quietly brought into the City Council chambers on Tuesday to sniff out possible pests after testimony by victims of the voracious critters — came up empty!
◆ “And it didn’t cost the city a penny,” said Christina Butler, City Hall’s sergeant at arms, who was told one dog was used.
“Following the discussion of the bedbug prevention ordinance, a man offered to demonstrate his bedbug-sniffing dog for free — and I agreed to let him make a quick pass through the council chambers.
“It was a good idea,” she said. “The carpeting would be a natural place for bedbugs to hide. I thought I don’t want the public or any of my aldermen coming in and carrying them home.”
“Two hours into the testimony I was itching like crazy. The testimony was psychologically making me itch. I had to get up!”
Rock squawk . . .
Ah, a little trivia twaddle involving Liz Lemon, the TV writer portrayed by comedian Tina Fey in the hit “30 Rock” show, which had its finale Thursday.
◆ The framed photos behind Liz Lemon’s desk were stills from a documentary about Second City made in the ’90s featuring a number of local alums, including the late Jim Zulevic.
Hair scare . . .
Truss talk: Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who wears his hair in a ponytail, claims he doesn’t like first lady Michelle Obama’s bangs.
◆ “I adore Madame Obama. . . [but] frankly, this doesn’t suit her. The fringe was a bad idea, it’s not good,” Lagerfeld said during a recent appearance on a French talk show.
Look who’s talking.
The ink well . . .
The Fourth Estate just got tapped again: Former Sen. John Kerry hired online politics editor Glen Johnson of the Boston Globe to be a senior State Department adviser when he takes the helm as secretary of State. Johnson has been a reporter for close to 30 years, according to the Boston Globe.
Ring. Ring.
$$$$$$$$: So who paid for President Obama’s second inaugural? Telecommunications giant AT&T donated $3 million to Obama’s recent inauguration, according to the Washington Post.
◆ Translation: This is the one of the largest political donations from a corporation — and it comes after Obama lifted restrictions on corporate donations in place for his first inauguration in 2009.
Sneedlings . . .
I spy . . . Cubs legend Ernie Banks celebrated his birthday a day early at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse on Wednesday. . . . Friday’s birthdays: Lisa Marie Presley, 45; Pauly Shore, 45, and Lauren Conrad, 27.
