A 15-year-old boy was shot several times in the abdomen Sunday night not far from a public school in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood, police said.

The boy was standing on the sidewalk in the 3600 block of West 16th Street when he was shot about 9:25 p.m., said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro, citing preliminary information.

Dvorak Technology Academy, a public elementary school focused on liberal arts and science, is located not far from the shooting.

The boy was taken in “stable” condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, Alfaro said, adding that the boy was also hit on his right side.

Police have made no arrests in the shooting as Area Central detectives investigate.
