Broadway In Chicago’s annual free summer concert — which offers a taste of productions headed here during the upcoming season — is moving to Millennium Park. No longer a part of the Taste of Chicago lineup as in summers past, it will now take place Aug. 6 at 6:15 p.m. at the Pritzker Pavilion, with ABC-7’s Janet Davies serving as host.
The concert will feature teasers from eleven productions headed to Chicago area stages during the 2012-2013 season, including an appearance by Cyndi Lauper, the iconic Grammy and Emmy Award-winning pop music legend. Lauper will be joined by members of the cast of “Kinky Boots” to perform her latest single, “Sex is in the Heel,” a number from her new musical that is set to receive its pre-Broadway world premiere here at the Bank of America Theatre, Oct. 2-Nov. 4.
Also on the program will be special appearances by Joey (the giant actor-driven puppet/horse) from “War Horse”; Cathy Rigby, who will be reprising her starring role in “Peter Pan”; and cast performances from “Catch Me If You Can,” “I Love Lucy® Live On Stage,” “Les Miserables,” “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” and “Sister Act.”
Joining the action will be excerpts from the long-running musical, “Million Dollar Quartet” (now playing at the Apollo Theatre), the American Music Theatre Project’s “The Verona Project” (a hybrid of Shakespeare and an indie-folk-rock concert to be performed Oct. 19-Nov. 4 at Northwestern University’s Josephine Louis Theatre in Evanston), and the Emerald City Theatre family production of “Cinderella” (running Nov. 17, 2012-Jan. 6, 2013 at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place).
