Four people were injured, one critically, in an extra-alarm fire early Tuesday at a four-story building in Chatham on the South Side.

Firefighters battled heavy flames on the top floor of the building in the 700 block of East 82nd, according to the Chicago Fire Department, which brought the fire under control just before 6:30 a.m.

Four people were taken to local hospitals, according to the fire department, the most seriously injured of them in critical condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
