WHITING — The U.S. Coast Guard’s Calumet Harbor unit was searching for a man who disappeared in Lake Michigan near Whiting on Monday night.

A spokesman said the unit received a call about 8 p.m. Monday that four people were swimming off Whiting Pier when they “started having trouble.” Three people were pulled out.

He said the missing man was an adult, but he didn’t have an age or other identifying information.

“We will update the situation as we have more information, and we remain hopeful,” the spokesman said.

The Lake County Sheriff Marine Unit and Indiana Department of Environmental Management assisted the Coast Guard.
