A FedEx courier was one of two people shot Friday evening in the Oakland neighborhood on the South Side.
A woman, whom FedEx confirmed was an employee, was shot twice in the leg near 41st and Drexel Boulevard and taken to Northwestern Hospital in serious condition, police said.
A 19-year-old man, shot in the left arm, also was transported to Northwestern in serious condition.
Residents of the area said the shootings were likely due to gang violence. Officials said they believe the courier was not the intended target of the shootings.
The shootings happened at 6:37 p.m.
“This is a difficult time for us. Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our employees,” FedEx said in a statement.
FedEx officials said they are cooperating with police.
Overall, there were six people shot in Chicago during a seven-hour period from noon Friday to 7 p.m., including one fatality.
A 20-year-old man was killed about 1:30 p.m. in the 300 block of East 51st Street, officials said.
