New speed cameras to start issuing tickets Sunday

Tickets will be issued starting Sunday to anyone caught by new automated speed cameras near Chicago high schools and parks.

The cameras are:

◆ On the Near West Side near Union Park at 140 N. Ashland Ave. and 141 N. Ashland Ave.

◆ In West Elsdon near Hancock High School at 5433 S. Pulaski Rd., 5428 S. Pulaski Rd., 4045 W. 55th St. and 4040 W. 55th St.

◆ In Ashburn near Bogan High School at 7833 S. Pulaski Rd., 7826 S. Pulaski Rd., 3851 W. 79th St. and 3832 W. 79th St.

And then on Monday, new cameras will begin to issue warnings for a 30-day period in the following locations:

◆ In Humboldt Park near Orr High School at 4040 W. Chicago Ave., 4041 W. Chicago Ave. and 732 N. Pulaski Rd.

◆ In New City near Sherman Park at 1315 W. Garfield Blvd. and 1334 W. Garfield Blvd.

The city will begin by issuing speeders for going 10 or more miles an hour over the posted speed limit, and the threshold will gradually be lowered. Anyone going six to 10 m.p.h. over the posted limit in a safety zone will be fined $35, and vehiclesgoing more than 11 m.p.h. over the limit will be fined $100.
