Two men were killed and at least seven other people were injured in shootings on the city’s South and West sides since Friday afternoon.
The most recent fatal shooting occurred shortly after 7:40 p.m. Saturday when a 32-year-old man was shot while sitting in a car in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. Michael Redmond was in a car in the 200 block of North Latrobe Avenue when another car pulled alongside and an occupant shot him multiple times, authorities said.
Redmond drove away after he was shot and crashed into several parked cars in the 5500 block of West Washington Street, where he was found wounded, authorities said. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. Officers found a handgun inside the car he was driving, police said.
About 4 a.m. Saturday, Javan Boyd, 28, died after he was shot mulitple times in the McKinley Park neighborhood on the South Side. Boyd was driving in the 3700 block of South Princeton Avenue when the shooter approached from the vehicle’s passenger side and fired into the vehicle, hitting him in the back and legs, authorities said.
Boyd, of the 7400 block of South Chappel Avenue, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
At least seven others have been wounded in shootings since Friday afternoon.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 5:20 p.m. Sunday in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side. An 18-year-old man was standing outside in the 8200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when at least one person fired shots, striking him in the arm and chest, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
