New technology is taking over our lives. Sometimes definitely for the better.
That’s how we felt Thursday when our cellphone buzzed and flashed an Amber Alert with the description of a car involved in the abduction of a 5-year-old Park Ridge boy.
No numbers to punch or apps to fool with. The information was right there on the screen, inviting us to become part of a posse to track down the vehicle.
And it worked. Someone who received the Amber Alert saw the car, abandoned in an alley in Skokie at that point, and called police. The boy was found safe. A person of interest was in custody Friday.
Amber Alert when handled right — and this was handled just right — is an excellent crime-fighting tool.
