AURORA — The Kane County State’s Attorney’s office has charged a 45-year-old Aurora man with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a woman during a domestic disturbance Monday night.

Christopher Whetstone, 45, of the 500 block of Charles Street, was charged with the death of Rachel Taylor, 22, of the 1000 block of Garfield Avenue, Aurora officials said late Wednesday.

Whetstone and Taylor were arguing outside a home down the street from Whetstone’s home about 8:25 p.m. Monday when he allegedly shot her multiple times in the abdomen and ran from the scene. He was taken into custody by Aurora Police about 10 minutes after the shooting.

Aurora Fire Department paramedics took Taylor to Presence Mercy Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 9:46 p.m. Monday.

Taylor and Whetmore had two children together, according to Paulette Taylor, Taylor’s adoptive mother.

Whetstone was scheduled to appear for video bond call Thursday morning at the Aurora Police lockup, according to Aurora Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli.
